Morgan Dirt Kart Club Inc. ---- Visited: 37 Times
Listing id: 13955
Dirt Karting has been a popular sport for over 60 years and was first introduced as a fun past time for war weary RAAF pilots. The first machines were very simple affairs back in that time. However, the machines and motors of today are as technically advanced as any level of motor sport in the world. Whether you are looking for adrenalin pumping action, or a fun day out with the family, then Dirt Karting may be just the thing for you.
Karting is competitive and top drivers race extremely finely-tuned machines at high speeds with all the thrills that open-wheeled racing has to offer but without the usual high costs involved. The sport of Karting is fast becoming a very popular past time for both male and female alike. It is an inexpensive way for the whole family to enjoy the thrills of motor racing, catering for children from seven years right through to grandparents!
Located 165 km north-east of Adelaide, Morgan is situated on a bend in the Murray River which is variously known as the 'North West Bend', 'Great Bend' or 'Great Elbow'. There are two ways to enter Morgan from the south. At Cadell it says 13 kms to Morgan on an unsealed road or 19 kms on a sealed road. The sealed road reaches a ferry across the Murray a few kilometres before Morgan. The unsealed road comes to a ferry at Morgan. Both trips are well worth taking.

Mt. Gambier Karting Club ---- Visited: 42 Times
Listing id: 13800
On the 13th of July, 1960, 32 interested people gathered in the Mt Gambier Cycling Club rooms at Vansittart Park to form the Mt Gambier Go-Kart Club. The first race meeting was held at the Glenburnie track on the 10th December 1960. The original track, parts of which can still be seen today, consisted of a Limestone base (all laid by hand) with a coating of coltar spread over the top. Because of the "poor quality" surface, it required continual patching and repairing.
In May 1993, the track was resurfaced to 7 metres wide and lengthened by 75 metres by extending the main straight up over the hill, and the infamous "hairpin" was removed. In January 1996 lights were erected on poles in the centre of the circuit and the first twilight meeting was held on February 10, 1996 Since that time, the track has once again been resurfaced and widened with the old "Shell" control tower being dismantled and replaced with the current structure in preparation for the Australian National Sprint Kart Titles which were held at this track over Easter, 2000, in addition, two and a half acres were purchased on the Eastern boundary and that land is currently used for the new grid and pit complex
